Reaching for a therapist can be a daunting experience. People feel very anxious and come to the first appointment with mixed feelings, conscious and unconscious expectations. What I have found very helpful in my practice is starting with three "diagnostic" appointments. The purpose of these first three appointments is to understand the presenting issue, evaluate whether my professional experience best serves your therapeutic needs and explain how I work. At the end of the third session we mutually decide if we'd like to work with each other. This staging format has been very well received in the past by people who are entering a therapeutic relationship for the first time and eases the process of the unknown.
In cases where there is difficulty to attend in person sessions either because of time limitations or residing outside London, Skype sessions are offered. Though it is a different kind of experience, Skype therapy is a very helpful contemporary medium that delivers very good therapeutic results. Kindly note that not all presenting issues or cases are suitable for Skype sessions.
Short Term Psychotherapy
There are times in life when a person needs extra help with thinking on and untangling a specific life issue. Short term psychotherapy can answer this need. This constitutes a point of discussion during the three diagnostic appointments. We will assess your circumstances together and decide on the best treatment plan for you. As an indication, short term psychotherapy can range between 16 sessions to about a year.
